This last Saturday I participated in the 1st The Bette Belle Smith 5k Run for H.E.R.  in the Central Valley.

This 5K fun run-walk for H.E.R. (Hope, Education, Reunification), benefiting the women and children of the Inter-Faith Ministries' Redwood Family Center.

The Redwood Family Center:
  • Is a transitional living center for women recovering
    from drug and alcohol addiction
  • Provides an opportunity for women to reunite with
their children in a structured environment
  • Provides long-term residential support and assists
    in treatment programs
  • Offers residents a comprehensive life-skills program
The 5K was great.  A really flat course.  And starting early enough to not have to much trouble with the Central Valley Heat.
The hard part about this race is that it was the first one.  No map of the race was available online, and though there was a person taking photographs I can't find anything about it online.
The best part about the race was that I did it with my family.  How wonderful is it get everyone out of the house just go and do something.

  1. I like a small race. It's nice to not have all the hoopla. You just show up. Get your number and race.
